Photography

Photography is world view: theme, location, perspective, proximity, distance, sharpness, time and light. Photos always tell at least two stories, those of the photographed and the motives as well as those of the photographer.

I received my first money for one of my photos from a local editorial office of a small daily newspaper in the 1990s. I still know, how I dipped the negatives in developer at that time.

Here you have samples of my works from Algeria, the Afghan province of Badakhshan and Kabul, the Danakil desert in Ethiopia, Tehran, Mogadishu, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and South Sudan; taken between 2002 and 2019. My photographes have been published in Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and numerous other magazines and newspapers.
